Teething Process in Babies
One of the parts of the growth and development processes of babies is the teething phase. Although this process is exciting for adults, it can turn into an ordeal for some babies. The teething process, which takes place between the third and twelfth months, is not directly related to the physical development of the baby, contrary to popular belief. In other words, it is just an assumption and a misconception that babies who teethe early develop faster physically. As the process approaches, teething symptoms begin to appear in babies. It can be considered as the first sign that the baby tries to put everything he finds into his mouth.
When Do Babies Teeth?
Babies' first teeth usually begin to erupt after the third month. After the start of the teething process, increased salivation, restless behaviors shown for no reason and bringing their hand to their mouth are observed in babies.
Although it is possible to generalize about the time of teething in babies, this situation may differ from baby to baby. So much so that the beginning of the teething process in some babies can reach the fifteenth month. This delay may develop due to genetic factors, hormonal imbalances and nutritional status.
Again, although it is not certain and varies from baby to baby, the first tooth to erupt is usually the incisor in the lower jaw. Then, in a period of 6 months, the baby will have a total of 4 teeth, 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. In the following period, 4 molars between 12 and 18 months and 4 canines in the next 6 months appear in the baby's mouth. Under normal conditions, all teeth of the baby are expected to be completed between 24 and 36 months.
What Are the Symptoms of Teething in Babies?
Some herald symptoms are seen in babies during teething, but these symptoms can also be seen 3 months before the tooth erupts. Contrary to popular belief, this situation has nothing to do with the general health of the baby. It is possible to list the symptoms of teething as follows;
